Life Enrichment Center at Oyster Bay

Tranportation

Transportation is one of our most vital services, as it is the lifeline to all of the programs offered at our Center.

bus for daytime senior program

Round trip bus transportation for our Daytime Senior Program is available Monday – Friday to senior residents of Oyster Bay and the surrounding areas. Please call to confirm eligibility.

  • Bayville
  • Brookville
  • East Norwich
  • Lattingtown
  • Locust Valley
  • Mill Neck
  • Matinecock
  • Muttontown
  • Oyster Bay
  • Oyster Bay Cove
  • As well as parts of Syosset and Woodbury

Our buses transport our members to the Center with door to door service. While the buses do require a certain level of independent mobility, our vehicles are handicap accessible and staffed with drivers who offer a high level of personal service to accommodate those who have low levels of mobility impairment.

Although Nassau County provides partial funding for our transportation programs*, we do experience costs over and above the funded amount. Therefore a voluntary donation of $1.50 for one-way transportation ($3 round trip) is suggested, and greatly appreciated. Please note: No senior is ever denied a service due to lack of contribution.

Please call 516-922-1770 for bus reservations at least one day in advance.

rides to medical appointments

Our Elderly Transportation Service (ETS) provides rides for seniors who do not have their own means of transportation for scheduled non-emergency dental, medical and social service appointments in nearby communities. The service is provided by our roster of volunteer drivers, who can pick up the senior at home and transport them to a local appointment. A suggested donation of $ .55 per mile is requested. Please call 516-922-6422 for a reservation about one week in advance.

Other transportation programs include a weekly trip to the grocery store and occasional outings to local parks and museums. Our Social Model Adult Day Care program also has a bus for its frail and memory-impaired participants.  Please call 516-922-1770 for more information about these programs.

*Our Lunch and Transportation programs are made possible with funding from the Nassau County Department of Human Services, Office for the Aging through New York State Office for the Aging and U.S. Administration on Aging, Town of Oyster Bay New York.
