Honorees
The Italian American Citizen’s Club of Oyster Bay (IACCOB) was founded in 1906 as a community-focused nonprofit organization promoting Italian traditions and culture in America.
Its primary mission is to foster community unity by providing scholarships to deserving individuals based on academic merit and financial need.
The IACCOB also supports the Oyster Bay community by helping with local
food pantries and toy drives for underprivileged children, along with local
blood drives, supports the local parish, St. Dominic, the Life Enrichment Senior Center at Oyster Bay, and participates in various community service projects through its women’s auxiliary.
Special Tribute
Filomena Ladisa was born in 1930 to Italian parents from Southern Italy and one of nine siblings. After moving from Greece to Italy, where she met her husband Spiro, they started a family.
In 1955, they moved to Astoria, where Filomena became a talented seamstress. Benedetta was born in Queens and completed their family of four children, including three brothers, Frank, Michael, and Nick. She is Nonna to eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
At 96 years young, Filomena enjoys living with her family, cooking and dancing whenever possible. She has been a loyal member of The Life Enrichment Senior Center since 2021 and comes to the Center every day. Filomena loves to play bingo, socialize, and have lunch with friends.
