Fitness and Nutrition

Health and Wellness

“Eat well and exercise!” Health and wellness are a central focus at the Life Enrichment Center. We know that proper diet and exercise are critical factors for healthy living, and become even more important with age. That’s why we offer a broad spectrum of nutrition and fitness programs … to keep our seniors happy, healthy and independent.

Nutrition

A good meal* plays a major role in daily living, and healthy eating helps make a difference in our energy levels and overall outlook. Our Center goes a step above, having a full-time chef who prepares meals on-site Monday through Friday that are not only hearty and well-balanced, but also delicious. Many of our members come to the Center to socialize and share a nutritious meal with friends. Reservations are recommended at least one day in advance. Come on in and join us for lunch! Click here for this month’s menu.

We also arrange for nutritionists and other health professionals to come on-site for presentations, lectures, and hands-on demo’s about a variety of topics in their field. Click here to see this month’s activity calendar.

Our Lunch and Transportation programs are made possible with partial funding from the Nassau County Department of Human Services, Office for the Aging through New York State Office for the Aging and U.S. Administration on Aging, Town of Oyster Bay New York.

Fitness Exercise classes

Staying active is so important to overall good health. Our extensive classes are geared for adults age 60+ and can be customized to accommodate various levels of mobility.  Instructors stay in-tune with the individual needs of class participants and work closely with them to suit each member’s level of ability. Like all of our daytime activities, our exercise classes are free. However, since the Center is a non-profit organization, voluntary donations (which are collected anonymously) are suggested and are much appreciated. No senior is ever denied a service due to lack of contribution.

Exercise classes include:

  • Strength Training
  • Yoga
  • Aerobics
  • Ballet
  • Tap Dance
  • Tai Chi
  • Line Dancing
  • Chair Yoga
  • Jazz Dance
  • Ballroom Dance
  • Dance-a-Chair

Fitness Center

Stay in shape at any age. Our fitness center is open to the public (not just 60+) as well as our members. Keep yourself physically fit with the following equipment:

  • 6 station circuit master
  • 2 stationary bicycles
  • 1 step machine
  • 2 treadmills
  • Various light hand weights

To pass the time, you can enjoy watching one of your favorite TV shows on our large flat screen TV.

The fitness center is open Monday through Friday during normal business hours. The fee is $15 per month, or $165 for an annual fitness center membership.

On-site nurse & Health screenings

A registered nurse is available most weekday mornings from 10:00 am to noon, and is a great resource for our members. Sometimes isolated alone at home, our seniors find solace in coming to the Center and having a familiar, friendly face available for simple consultations. The nurse can do blood pressure screenings, assessments, answer general medical questions, and provide advice and referrals. During the autumn season we also conduct a free flu clinic which is open to all eligible residents in the community.
