Life Enrichment Center at Oyster Bay

About The Life Enrichment Center

about us

As soon as you walk through our doors, you’ll feel the warmth and energy that embodies every aspect of the Life Enrichment Center.  Centrally located in the hamlet of Oyster Bay, we offer active seniors a wide variety of programs and services, including exercise, lunch, transportation, social services, activities, health and wellness programs, and socialization.

Open Monday through Friday, our Center is a cornerstone making a vibrant impact for seniors in the community.  We are committed to helping older adults age in place by providing the services and resources they need to enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle while living independently, in their own homes.  Our beautiful facility is a fitting environment for all that the Life Enrichment Center has to offer!

Our History

Formerly known as the Doubleday Babcock Senior Center, the Life Enrichment Center was founded in 1977 when Angela Koenig, a parishioner at Christ Episcopal Church Oyster Bay and long-time Board president, suggested creating a place for seniors as a way to spend money donated to the church by the Doubleday and Babcock families. By 1998, the Center outgrew the church parish hall and moved to its current location down the block. Our name change to The Life Enrichment Center in 2011 reflects our commitment to improving the lives of individuals 60+. Over the years, what originally started as a once-a-week program has evolved into a full-scale, full-time operation providing nutritious meals, comprehensive services, health and wellness programs, and social activities to hundreds of older adults in our area.

Our Center today

Our daytime program offers a broad range of services suited for active adults 60+. Many seniors come to the Center to socialize and share a nutritious meal with friends, and transportation services are available*. There is a central focus on health and wellness, so a wide variety of exercise classes and lectures are offered to maintain fitness. Exercise is important for this population and our extensive classes are customized to accommodate many levels of mobility. Programs also include entertainment, educational classes, health screenings, comprehensive social services and caregiver support.   There are no membership fees. Donations are collected anonymously and no senior is ever denied a service due to lack of contribution.

Our evening programs offer customized activities for older adults who are looking to get out for an evening. Activities include Strength Training, Pilates, Yoga, Cooking Demos, Open Mic Night, watercolor painting, social mixers and much more, all at a nominal cost.

In addition, a social model adult day care program was established to meet the needs of frail and memory-impaired seniors and their families. This “Day Break” program provides quality, cost effective therapeutic services to functionally-impaired seniors in a warm and welcoming setting at a daily rate, Monday through Friday.

*Our Lunch and Transportation programs are made possible with partial funding from the Nassau County Department of Human Services, Office for the Aging through New York State Office for the Aging and U.S. Administration on Aging, Town of Oyster Bay New York.

Please review our Membership page for additional membership information.
