Founded in 1977, the Center served its first lunch to 100 members in the Parish Hall of Christ Episcopal Church, which stands a few doors down. As our membership continued to increase, the need for more space was clear. As a result, a Capital Fund drive was organized in 1996 culminating with the purchase and renovation of the present location at 45 East Main Street, Oyster Bay, NY. The Center serves individuals 55+ from Bayville, Brookville, East Norwich, Lattingtown, Locust Valley, Matinecock, Mill Neck, Muttontown, Oyster Bay, Oyster Bay Cove and beginning in 2014, neighboring communities in Syosset and Woodbury.
Our Day Program is planned and organized by the staff and members. An Advisory Board is elected by the members and works with the staff to identify the desires and needs of the members. There is no fee to join the Day Program; only suggested donations are requested.
In 1999, we established Day Break, an adult day care program for the frail elderly. This program offers mind stimulating activities in a social model day care setting. This is a fee based program offering respite for the caregiver as well.
Our members’ lives include exercise, eating healthy, communicating via internet, volunteering, dancing, singing, and maintaining an active lifestyle. Our philosophy is to continue to develop new activities and programs to meet the needs and desires of our members.
In 2011, the After Hours Evening Program was established to offer customized activities focused on the baby boomer segment. Extensive exercise classes, social activities and more are planned monthly.
